Your mark,
over the whole of it or in one corner

A line of text or a logo of your own, laid over a photograph or every page of a PDF — at the size, slant and strength you set. É grátis. De verdade.

What it does

One mark, on whatever you have

A photograph, a page, a whole document — the same mark and the same arithmetic behind it.

Pictures and PDFs

What you can mark

  • JPEG, PNG and WebP
  • A PDF of any length, page by page
  • Pages of different sizes in one file
  • The file is read in the browser, never sent

The mark

A phrase, or your own logo

  • Any text, in a font this browser has
  • Filled or outlined, for dark and light artwork
  • A PNG or SVG logo dropped in
  • Its own color and strength

How it is laid

One, or over all of it

  • Nine places for a single mark
  • A repeat over the whole page
  • Size, angle and gap by eye
  • The grid follows the mark's slant

What comes back

The file, marked

  • A picture comes back as PNG
  • A PDF comes back a PDF
  • The pages are drawn on, not rasterized
  • Named after the file you gave it

In detail

What it can do

The whole of it, without the sales copy.

01

Files

What it takes and what it gives back.

  • JPEG, PNG and WebP in
  • PDF in, of any length
  • PNG out for a picture
  • PDF out with the pages untouched
  • Pages of mixed sizes handled one by one
02

The mark

Text or artwork, and what can be done to it.

  • A line of text in a sans, a serif or a monospace
  • Filled or outlined letters
  • Any color
  • A logo dropped in, transparency kept
  • Rasterized at the size it is stamped
03

Layout

Where the copies go.

  • A single mark in any of nine places
  • An inset measured off the shorter side
  • A repeat over the whole carrier
  • The grid laid along the mark's own axes
  • Size, angle, opacity and gap
04

Privacy

What happens to the file.

How it works

Four steps

A file, a mark, a layout, and the file back.

1

Drop the file

An image or a PDF. It is read here and goes nowhere else.

2

Say what the mark is

Type a phrase, or drop the logo you use.

3

Lay it

One in a corner, or over the whole of it — size, slant and strength by eye.

4

Take the file

A PNG for a picture; a PDF for a PDF, with its pages still pages.

What it is for

Where a mark earns its keep

The jobs this was built out of.

A draft that must not be signed

\u201cDRAFT\u201d over every page, so a copy cannot be passed off as the final one.

Photographs on approval

A shoot sent to a client marked, and sent clean when it is paid for.

A document under review

Marked with the date it was circulated, so two versions never look alike.

Artwork with your name on it

A logo in the corner, at the same size on every file in the set.

A contract that leaves the office

Marked in your own browser: it never touches anybody's server.

A specimen or a proof

A repeat over the whole sheet that survives a screenshot.

Questions

The ones worth asking

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. It is read in the page, marked in the page and written from the page. There is no server in this at all, and the tool works with the network switched off once it has loaded.

Does the PDF stay a PDF?

Yes. The pages are not rasterized: the mark is embedded once as a picture and drawn over each page, so the text under it is still text and still selectable. That is also why the file stays about the size it was.

Can the watermark be removed?

By somebody determined, yes — anything drawn over a page can be painted out, and a mark in one corner is easier to lose than one over the whole of it. A watermark says who a copy came from; it is not a lock.

What size should the logo be?

As large as you have. It is drawn at the size it is stamped, so a small PNG blown up on a big photograph is soft. Transparency is kept, which is what makes a logo sit on artwork rather than in a white box.

Why is the grid slanted with the mark?

Because rows that run across the page while the mark runs up it read as a tray of stamps rather than as a ground. Stepping along the mark's own axes is what makes a watermark look like one.

Can I mark several files at once?

Not yet — one file at a time. The settings stay where they are between files, so a set can be run through quickly.

What about video?

Being built. The same mark and the same grid, over every frame, with the sound carried across untouched.
